3. Itinerary:

DAY 1: June 10 (Thursday)

Meal: Dinner

Accommodation: Swiss Inn Hotel

As usual, we meet at 6.00 am on the Malaysian side of the 2nd Link at the Esso petrol stations. The convoy will move off by 6.15 am.

We will be travelling mostly on the North-South Highway. There will be stops for toilet breaks, petrol top-ups and lunch along the way.

The journey is long but it will be an interesting one. As we approach the northern half of the highway, the scenery after Ipoh is breathtaking with mountain ranges, limestone hills, marble quarries and valleys. You will also be able to see the Lata Kijang waterfall cascading down a mountain slope as we approach Ipoh.

We get off the highway at the Sg Petani exit, which is about 20 minutes north of Penang.

It will be about 5.00pm by the time we check into Swiss Inn hotel. We will have delicious steamboat and grill dinner at the hotel poolside where we’ll get to know each other better.

It’s free & easy after dinner. Some suggested activities include foot reflexology, traditional massage, pasar malam and retail therapy at the nearby shopping complex.

DAY 2: June 11 (Friday)

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: The Regency Jerai Hill Resort

After breakfast, we’ll check out of Swiss Inn Hotel and drive to the Lembah Bujang Archaelogical Museum. Many of Malaysia’s oldest human relics and remnants of ancient civilizations thousands of years ago have been discovered in the area. There is also a waterfall next to the museum. By all means, take a quick dip in the cool mountain waters if you want. Just remember to bring along a change of dry clothes.

From Lembah Bujang, we’ll proceed to the fishing village of Tanjong Dawai where you can buy dried seafood products and snacks such as keropok. .

From Tanjong Dawai, we will drive to the mountain resort up on Gunung Jerai. At 1,200 metres high, this mountain is the highest peak in the state of Kedah.

Like all mountain resorts, the air is pretty cool and crisp. After checking-in, it’s free & easy for the rest of the day. Couples would certainly enjoy taking romantic walks together in the sprawling gardens and lush greenery.

We meet at the coffeehouse in the evening for buffet dinner.

Day 3: June 12 (Saturday)

Meals: Breakfast, dinner
Accommodation: Swiss Inn Hotel

We’ll check out at 10 am and drive to the Bukit Kayu Hitam Duty-Free Complex at the Malaysian-Thai border. Along the way, we’ll stop at Changlun Bus Terminal to fill up the Thai immigration cards.

The car park at Bukit Kayu Hitam is fenced-up and you need a ticket to enter and leave the parking area. You can either shop at the Duty-Free Complex on the M’sian side or walk over to the bustling town of Dannork in Thailand for shopping, Thai food and massage. The distance between Bukit Kayu Hitam and the M’sian-Thai border is about 100 metres. All you need is your passport and sufficient Thai Bahts.

We’ll spend a few hours in Dannork and Bukit Kayu Hitam. From here, it’s an hour’s drive back to Sg Petani where we’ll check into Swiss Inn again.

All that shopping and walking would no doubt leave you hot and thirsty. I suggest you savour the hotel’s signature watermelon juice drink. It comes chilled in a big one-litre glass mug! And it costs only RM7.

Dinner will again be at the poolside.

Day 4: June13 (Sunday)
Meals: Breakfast

It’s our final day in Sg Petani. After breakfast, we’ll check out at 11 am for the journey home. Lunch will be enroute at one of the highway R&Rs.

We should reach Singapore by 8 pm.
